What To Do In Liverpool: Our 24-Hour Guide

Firstly, well done for making it to Liverpool. It really is one of, if not the most, beautiful cities in the United Kingdom. We have a wealth of history here and some amazing architecture too!

If you only have the day you’ll soon realise that it just simply isn’t enough time. There is FAR more to see than you have time for so here are a few recommendations from me.

If you’ve arrived by train at Lime Street station (the oldest intercity railway line in the world opened in 1830!) then our city awaits you as you are in a perfect place to go out and explore!

Jump On A Cycling Tour Of Liverpool

Firstly, join one of our city centre highlights cycling tours which covers the highlights of the entire city in 90 minutes.

We cover all the “must-see” places and give you a 5-minute look inside both the Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral (when open to the public) and tell you about the history of this amazing city.

You’ll also see there are lots of bars, café and restaurants, most of which are independent and will welcome you with open arms. It’s a very welcoming place and scousers are amongst some of the friendliest people you’ll ever have the privilege to meet.

We are proud of our city and love showing visitors around and will always go above and beyond when it comes to making sure we look after you.

If you don't fancy a tour, you could take yourself off on one of Liverpool's brilliant cycling routes.

Check Out Amazing Local Breweries

Once you’ve finished your highlights tour with us we’d suggest a quick drink at our neighbours at Black Lodge Brewery who brew their own delicious beers on-site!

After some liquid refreshment, we recommend visiting the following places to fill up your day before you head back home.

Soak Up The Beatles Culture

If you’re a fan of The Beatles then there are two places you should definitely visit (after maybe booking on our Beatles tour first!) firstly the Liverpool Beatles Museum on Mathew Street run by Roag Best (brother of Pete Best the original drummer with The Beatles).

This is one of my favourites and you could easily spend a couple of hours here. Whilst you’re on Mathew Street why not go and visit one of the most famous clubs in the world, The Cavern Club!

The second is The Beatles Story in the Royal Albert Dock. This gives the history of the band and is a great tourist attraction.

Explore The Albert Dock

If you’ve ended up at the Royal Albert Dock then why not pop over to the Maritime Museum where you can learn all about how Liverpool has been an important port over the years. Whilst there don’t forget to visit the International Slavery Museum which will shed more light on how important the port of Liverpool was during these terrible times.

There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants in the Royal Albert Dock so maybe grab some food or a beer in one of them (or more!) my favourite restaurant there is Maray and as a vegetarian, I always go for the “Disco Cauliflower” (I love it so much I even wrote a song about it).

From the Royal Albert Dock take a short walk across to the Pier Head but before you get there pop into the Museum of Liverpool which always has wonderful exhibitions and will tell you more about our history. At the Pier Head, you will see the Three Graces (also a stop on our highlights tour) and the wonderful sculptures of The Beatles by Andrew Edwards donated to the city by The Cavern Club.

Just a short walk away is a hidden gem and my favourite museum in Liverpool, Western Approaches! This really is a fascinating museum and also on our highlights tour.

Explore Liverpool’s Museums And Art Galleries

From there, walk along Castle Street to the site of Liverpool Castle and then turn left to head back along the pedestrianised shopping strand of Church Street. Head to the Cultural Quarter where you will find some amazing buildings and museums such as the Walker Art Gallery, Central Library, World Museum and St Georges Hall.

If you’ve done all this you’ll need to get some food before your train leaves and a great place next the station is one of my favourite traditional pubs, The Crown Hotel!

Check Out Liverpool’s Buzzing Independent Bars

Of course, after a couple of museums, you might decide to sample some more of the pubs instead and there are at least four that I’d recommend here which are Hobo Kiosk run by Delia and Tristan (and just around the corner from our base), Baltic Fleet (also just around the corner from our base on Kings Dock Street), Ye Cracke on Rice Street (and a Beatles connection inside…) and lastly a wonderful award-winning pub run by Dominic which has incredible history and a lovely outside seating area, The Bridewell!

We also run a Walking Pub Crawl tour every evening so if you’d like to see some of the bars mentioned above, why not join us? It’s a great way to see more and is also ideal if you’re a solo traveller.

The most important part of visiting us is to come with an open mind and leave with fond memories. We want you to come back again soon and spend a bit more time here!
