The 10 Best Coffee Shops in Liverpool

We love our coffee and we’ve tried many places in Liverpool. Here’s a list of our favourites.
If you like your coffee fresh and not out of a jar, then Liverpool has a great selection of independent coffee shops for you to try.
Obviously, we have the usual suspects like Nero and Costa, but there are actually quite a few places that just do amazing coffee. There’s even a coffee festival once a year next door, run by Katy from Crosby Coffee — local suppliers to a large range of different outlets.
In this guide, you can find our 10 best coffee shops in Liverpool from those we’ve tried and tasted!
About the 10 Best Coffee Shops in Liverpool

Although it’s a top 10, it isn’t really in order of how good they are — it’s just a list for your own research purposes. Ideally, we’d like you to try them all and find your own number one.
Some of the places listed serve food too, but some are purely coffee — so load your powder, tamp it down and wait for the brew!

1. Café Tabac

I’ve literally been coming here for years… not when it first opened in 1974 as I was just a boy, but ever since venturing “into town” as a teen, this was always on my list.
These days, I get my coffee fix or veggie breakfast here when I have time — and I’ve even done a few gigs here back in the day. It’s a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. They also do an amazing Long Island Iced Tea, but more of that in another blog…
2. The Red Berry Club

A family-run small business that serves great coffee from local suppliers at Crosby Coffee — and they also sell some interesting retro clothing too.
Mark will chat with you while he makes your coffee. He’s a lovely fella and a boss barista! This place is small but perfectly formed.
3. The Vibe Café

I do love this place — and some of the vegan coffees are out of this world! You can go traditional (with non-dairy milk), but it’s the speciality latte blends that really stand out.
4. Lovelocks

If I’ve got the time and I’m in need of a veggie breakfast and a decent coffee, this is one of the places I’ll make the effort to go to.
There’s a proper boho vibe here and the welcome is always warm. They’ve got a good coffee selection and a great view from the windows.
5. Lucy In The Sky Coffee Shop

As we often take school groups on bicycle tours of the City Centre Highlights and stop at Western Approaches for a long visit, I usually pop into this place for a quick coffee while the kids explore the museum.
It never disappoints — and although I’ve not eaten here yet, the food looks great too.
6. Bold Street Coffee

This place is always busy — and there’s a good reason for that. I pop in about once a month for my coffee fix, though if it’s rammed I’ll sometimes head over to Café Tabac for a bit more breathing room.
7. 92 Degrees

92 Degrees now has a few branches across the city, but I always return to the original one on Jamaica Street. It’s close to our base and a really good place to get some work done — they’ve got both indoor and outdoor seating.
8. The Egg Café

This is my go-to spot when I need something proper to eat with my coffee. The filter coffee is on constant flow, but I usually go for an oat milk flat white. Just a heads up — there are lots of stairs to get to the café.
9. Ryde Bicycle Café

Ryde’s been around for a few years now an
d has a great double life — top-notch coffee and on-site bike repairs. I head here fairly often, either to chat with the staff or grab a bite while my bike gets a bit of TLC.
10. Hardware Coffee + Kitchen

I’ve only been here a handful of times, but it left a good impression. My first visit was to celebrate my daughter’s new business, and we had breakfast and a couple of coffees that were so good I came back again not long after. It’s a modern yet comfortable spot to linger.
Whether you’re visiting Liverpool or just exploring on foot or by bike, these independent coffee shops offer character, quality and great brews worth seeking out.
